The Yadlin School – The Academy for Young Scientists

The Yadlin School, located in the center of Israel, is an experimental school focused on science and technology. The school believes in encouraging students to excel at what they do. The teaching model is based on allowing the students to choose their fields of interest from two main branches of study: science and technology or the arts. Students are encouraged to teach or tutor other students in fields they excel at: for example, students who are good or enjoy dance are encouraged to teach the rest of the students. The students are encouraged to make independent choices and make a difference both in their classrooms and in their communities. The school believes in encouraging its students to develop their natural tendencies to ask questions, investigate their environment, develop their natural curiosity and fulfill their personal abilities in a world with endless possibilities.

The school is also a “green” school, meaning, it is working to implement principles of sustainable development in the school and educate about environmental issues. The school aims to educate for the intelligent use of resources, by creating art and crafting toys from used plastic, allowing the students to participate in activities promoting awareness for sustainability, such as picking surplus produce that is then donated to needy families and more.


The students’ independence and natural curiosity is nurtured by letting them choose as much as possible. The students have elective courses, chosen according to their areas of interest. This model is based on the college or university model. Studying is done in small groups and students are allowed and encouraged to choose at each stage of the learning process. The school believes that allowing and encouraging students to choose and take charge of the subjects they learn is beneficial for their self-confidence and builds up their sense of involvement and personal responsibility. Students are not committed to the course of study they have chosen and are allowed to reconsider before the beginning of each school year. Another example of the students’ involvement in the various aspects of the school is their participation in videos promoting and introducing the school to the general public.


The school maintains a biological, scientific and zoological garden for educational purposes. The school strongly believes in allowing the students to have physical contact with the various subject matters, whether they are animals, minerals or more.  


The scientific education includes employing elements from the students every-day lives to teach them about science in the most approachable way. This includes using classic children’s books and integrating story-telling with scientific studies and conducting observations and experiments on elements from the stories.
